Get to know Dr. Zimmermann

I grew up in Shawano, WI and attended college in the Twin Cities before moving to Madison for medical training in 2005.

I completed both medical school and residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin before joining the Department of Medicine as a primary care doctor for UW Health in 2012.

A primary care focus on food, fitness and fasting

I managed a primary care panel for UW Health from 2012 through 2024. I have always had a strong focus on wellness, believing that if people avoid illness in the first place they are going to live better.

Over time my primary care practice progressively shifted focus toward fasting. I came to see its potential to resolve root problems facing our society including obesity, high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes and other issues central to health in our modern world.

This culminated with a number of years consulting for UW’s medical weight management program and the successful completion of a grant funded fasting study to reduce insulin use.

I am very pleased to be leveraging all of my experience in medicine to help people transform their health with Simple Fasting.

You might find me out walking our dog "Osi." Or one of my other favorite outdoor activities: running, biking, hiking or skiing.
